A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's north-eastern Java province on Friday morning. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was near Teluknag. The earthquake occurred at around 4:23 am local time.
Türkiye's state-run Anadolu News Agency and other media outlets quoted USGS as saying that the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 358.6 km. There were no immediate reports of any major damage or casualties due to the earthquake that occurred at such a depth. Local officials also did not report any major structural damage. No tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake.
Indonesia is on the 'Ring of Fire' of the Pacific Ocean. Due to the movement of tectonic plates, earthquakes and volcanic activity are common in this area. Officials are still monitoring the situation and estimating the damage caused.
