Ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India for the BRICS Summit, China Southern Airlines has announced the resumption of flights between Guangzhou-New Delhi after six years. Regular passenger service will resume on the Guangzhou-New Delhi route from September 21. The process of reestablishing air connectivity between India and China has received another major boost.
China Southern Airlines announced on Saturday that it will resume regular passenger flight services on the Guangzhou-New Delhi route from September 21. According to the airline, this will be the return of its services to India after six years. The airline will operate more than 100 flights every week on its eight round-trip routes in South Asia once the service resumes. This step is being seen in connection with the increasing connectivity and expansion of travel facilities between India and China. The decision to increase air connectivity between the two countries can give a new impetus to economic, trade and tourism relations.
This announcement has come at a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in New Delhi to attend the BRICS summit. He is also proposed to have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the summit. According to news agency NI, Air China had restarted Beijing-New Delhi direct flight service in April. Earlier, China Eastern Airlines had resumed direct flights between Kunming and Kolkata. On March 30, Indigo started its first daily non-stop service between Kolkata-Shanghai. Apart from this, flight services from Kolkata-Guangzhou and Delhi to China were also expanded.
