New Delhi .The controversy regarding a song from the film 'Mirzapur: The Movie' has now reached Delhi High Court. Public Interest Litigation has been filed demanding the removal of the song 'Shoorveer' used in the climax of the film. The petition has alleged that this song, dedicated to the bravery and glory of Maharana Pratap, has been used in the film with scenes involving gangsters and criminal characters, which is different from its original spirit.
The PIL filed by Prashant Kumar Singh states that the song 'Shoorveer' was originally composed with the aim of paying tribute to the bravery and glory of Maharana Pratap, the great warrior of Rajasthan. The petitioner says that showing such a song in scenes related to crime and gang culture can give a different meaning to its basic message and cultural context.
According to the petition, the song has been used in the film in scenes depicting fictional gangsters and criminal characters. The petitioner has described it as objectionable from historical and cultural point of view. He argues that it is not appropriate to present a song dedicated to a historical and national hero by associating it with crime and violence.
In this case, a demand has been made to the court to remove the song 'Shoorveer' from the climax of the film. Apart from this, it has been appealed in the petition that if the song is removed then some other track should be used in its place. In the petition, a demand has been made to prepare guidelines for the future also.
The petitioner has said that songs and symbols associated with historically and culturally important personalities should not be used in such a way that they appear to be associated with crime or wrongful activities. The petition also said that such use is likely to harm the cultural heritage of Rajasthan and the sentiments of the people.
Senior Rajasthan BJP leader Rajendra Rathore has also earlier expressed objection to this controversy. A day before the PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court, he had written a letter to the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification demanding the removal of the song 'Shoorveer' from the film. He also shared his letter on social media.
Rathore had said that it is not appropriate to associate the song dedicated to Maharana Pratap with gangster and criminal characters. In his letter, he mentioned values like bravery, sacrifice, self-respect and dedication to the motherland and said that there is a clear difference between these values and gangster culture.
Along with removing the songs from the film, he had also demanded that in future, songs, symbols and other things related to historical great men should not be allowed to be used in such a way that would hurt the sentiments of the people.
At present, the dispute regarding the song 'Shoorveer' from 'Mirzapur: The Movie' has reached the legal process. Now the stand of Delhi High Court in this matter is under watch. Whether the song will be removed from the climax of the film or not, it will be clear only after the court order.
