Now people will not have to wander in search of public toilets in Delhi. The Delhi government has started preparations to build 1,000 new public toilet blocks in markets, highways, parks and crowded areas. In the first phase of the scheme, 500 new modern toilet blocks will be built. For this the government has approved Rs 127 crore. These toilet blocks will be constructed at such places where there is high movement of people and the need for public facilities is felt. This scheme was recently approved in the Finance and Expenditure Committee (EFC) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Budget provision of Rs 300 crore
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had made a provision of Rs 300 crore in the budget for the construction of new public toilet blocks in the capital. Under the scheme, priority will be given to places especially around markets, parks and roadsides, where women face more problems due to lack of public toilets.
New toilets will be built in these areas
The places currently identified by the government include many prominent public places including Civil Lines, Anand Vihar, AIIMS Campus, August Kranti Marg, Surajmal Vihar, Jhilmil, Laxmibai Marg, Aruna Nagar-Timarpur and Metcalf House. After getting approval of Rs 127 crore for 500 modern toilet blocks in the first phase, now the construction process will be taken forward at these places. The government plans to create a total of 1,000 new public toilet blocks in a phased manner.
CCTV cameras will be installed at the entry point for security
According to the government, security will also be given priority in the new public toilet block. CCTV cameras will be installed at their entry and exit points. There will be a system of continuous monitoring through these cameras, so that people can get a safe environment. Grid-connected solar systems will also be installed on these toilet blocks. This will allow solar energy to be used to operate the facilities. At the same time, there will also be a system to send the electricity generated in excess to the grid. This will help in saving energy as well as reducing electricity costs.
