Pilibhit. A sensational case of disregarding rules and committing fraud to avail the benefits of government schemes has come to light from Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. Here, in order to grab the financial assistance available under the 'Chief Minister Group Marriage Scheme', a person hid his first marriage and got married for the second time in the group marriage program. When the first wife got wind of this trick, she lodged a complaint with the police. Taking immediate action, the police have registered an FIR against six people including the accused husband.

First wife revealed the secret
The complainant, Geeta Devi, resident of village Madaria, Pilibhit, told the police that she was married on 24 April 2021 to 'Kumar', a resident of Kyoladiya, Bareilly, with whom she also has a son. Geeta has alleged that her husband Kumar prepared fake documents showing himself as unmarried, without any legal divorce. After this, the accused married a woman named Suman on November 12 in the Chief Minister's mass marriage ceremony organized at Drummond Government Inter College, Pilibhit.
Case registered under these sections, ₹ 1 lakh will be recovered
According to information received from sources, after this matter came to light, Newriya police station has registered a case against a total of six people including the accused husband Kumar, his parents and the second wife and her parents. The police have taken this action under Section 318 (4) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) i.e. cheating and Section 82 (1) i.e. committing second marriage while the husband/wife is alive. Pilibhit Chief Development Officer Satish Prasad Mishra has taken a tough stance on the matter and said that after the police investigation and filing of charge sheet, the entire government assistance amount of ₹1 lakh will be recovered from the accused family.

What is the scheme and why did it become a fraud?
Let us tell you that under the 'Chief Minister Group Marriage Scheme' of the Uttar Pradesh government, a total financial assistance of ₹ 1,00,000 per couple is given for the marriage of daughters of poor families. Of this amount, ₹64,000 is sent directly to the bride's bank account. Apart from this, household items worth ₹ 21,000 are given as gifts and ₹ 15,000 are earmarked for the expenses of the marriage ceremony. The accused had tried to cheat the administration to embezzle this government money.
