A case of attack on a retired Air Force officer of Kargil war with an iron rod has come to light in a dispute over parking in Gurugram. Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retd) has alleged in his complaint to the police that a parking attendant of Magnum Global Park attacked him with an iron rod. In this attack he suffered serious head injury and fracture in his hand. Gupta alleges that the attacker also threatened to kill him.
Amit Kumar Gupta was a part of the Indian Air Force's 'Operation Safed Sagar' during the 1999 Kargil war. He had come with his family on Thursday night to have dinner at Gonzo restaurant located in Magnum Global Park, Gurugram. Gupta has alleged that after the incident he also called the police helpline, but the police did not reach the spot for about half an hour. He has also accused the police of not helping and the hospital of giving wrong MLC report. Now they have demanded strict action against the accused including attempt to murder and causing serious injury.
1. According to Gupta, at around 8 pm on Thursday night, he left his family outside Gonzo restaurant located in Magnum Global Park and went to find a place to park the car. They allege that the parking staff sent them to different places. Sometimes they were asked to go to valet parking, sometimes to basement and sometimes to multilevel parking.
2. Gupta has alleged in his police complaint that after being sent to different places, the parking staff finally refused to park his car. During this period the dispute increased.
3. According to Gupta, at one point when he was trying to reverse his car, a parking attendant allegedly hit the windshield of his car. They allege that the attendant tried to break the glass.
4. Gupta told that when he came out of the car and protested against this action of the parking attendant, the accused picked up an iron rod. It is alleged that the attendant attacked Gupta twice with an iron rod. The first injury was on his hand and the second on his head.
5. Gupta told that he was drenched in blood after being hit on the head. He said that the attack happened suddenly and he could not even defend himself.
6. In the police complaint, Gupta has also accused the accused of threatening to kill him. He said that the attack was carried out suddenly and without any provocation.
7. Gupta alleges that when he was attacked, security personnel and other parking staff were also present at the spot. Despite this no one intervened to save them. He says that finally a chef intervened, which saved his life.
8. Gupta has alleged in his complaint that he had also called the police helpline. He says that despite this the police did not reach the spot for about half an hour. He has accused the police of not cooperating after the incident.
9. Gupta was taken to Medanta Hospital by ambulance after suffering serious injuries on his head and elbow in the attack. According to him, surgery was done to join the elbow bone through a plate. However, he alleged that the MLC (medico-legal case) report submitted by the hospital was wrong. He says that bleeding from the head and elbow injury has not been mentioned in the report.
10. In his complaint to the police, Gupta has demanded strict action against the accused. He has demanded registration of FIR against the accused under appropriate sections including attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt. Gupta says that he is not getting the expected help from the police.
What was 'Operation Safed Sagar'?
'Operation Safed Sagar' was a high-altitude air operation conducted by the Indian Air Force during the Kargil War of 1999. Its objective was to drive out Pakistani infiltrators who had entered the Indian-occupied peaks in the Kargil sector. A Netflix series released in August also paid tribute to this courageous air campaign.
