Batashe: Special offering of puja
New Delhi: Use of batasha as sweets or prasad is very common during puja. Specifically, white batasha is selected for offering to the Lord and decorating the puja thali. Usually, people buy these from the market, but do you know that they can be easily made at home too? It does not require any special machine or mold.
Homemade Batasha are fresh as well as light and fluffy. To make these, mainly sugar, water and a little baking soda are required. Let us know the simple method of making it.
Ingredients needed to make batasha
1 cup sugar
half cup water
2 pinches baking soda
A little ghee to grease the plate
First stage of preparation
Take a big and clean plate to arrange the batasha. Apply little amount of ghee to it and smoothen the entire surface. Keep in mind that there should not be a thick layer of ghee, just grease it so much that the batasha can be easily removed after setting.
Method of making syrup
Now add sugar and half cup of water in a heavy bottomed pan. Cook it on medium flame and keep stirring occasionally. When the sugar completely dissolves in water, increase the flame a little. Cook the syrup until it becomes slightly thick. Avoid cooking it for too long at this stage.

When the syrup thickens, reduce the flame and add 2 pinches of baking soda. As soon as you add it, the syrup will start foaming and the mixture will start swelling. Now mix it well. After the mixture swells, turn off the gas.
to shape batasha
Now without wasting any time, pour the prepared mixture in small drops into the greased plate. Do this with the mixture warm, as it will set quickly when cooled and may be difficult to shape.
After adding all the batters, let them cool completely at room temperature. When they set well, take them out slowly from the plate. Thus, white, light and fluffy batasha will be ready for puja and prasad at home.
