Kanpur. During the investigation of a theft case in the Feelkhana police station area, an uproar broke out on Monday when MLA Amitabh Bajpai along with about 20-25 people arrived in support of a person who was brought to the police station for questioning. During this, the MLA and the people accompanying him accused the policemen of assaulting the person.
According to the police, on September 14, Sub Inspector Satyendra Kumar along with the police team was present in the area in Patarasi and Suragarasi, searching for an unknown thief related to IPC 58/26, Section 331(4)/305 BNS. During observation of CCTV footage, a suspicious person was seen moving around the incident site at around 12:16 am on the night of the incident. On identification with the local people, he was identified as Aman Aggarwal (about 49 years), resident of 32/101 B Ghumani Bazaar, Police Station Feelkhana.
The police informed the Assistant Police Commissioner Kotwali about the matter and after informing the family members of Aman Aggarwal about the incident, he was brought to Chowki Beat, Feelkhana for questioning. Meanwhile, MLA Amitabh Bajpai reached the post with about 20-25 people. According to the police, the MLA and the people accompanying him accused the policemen of assaulting Aman Aggarwal. It has also come to light that the MLA argued with female SO Reena Singh and tried to free Aman Aggarwal.
According to the police, it was also said on behalf of the MLA that if Aman Aggarwal is not released immediately, he will stage a protest at the post itself. After this the MLA and the people accompanying him sat in the post premises. Presently, Police station in-charge Feelkhana and Assistant Police Commissioner Kotwali are continuously talking to MLA Amitabh Bajpai and the people accompanying him and convincing them to leave the outpost premises. Police say that necessary legal action will be taken in the case as per rules.
