New Delhi. Recently, seven students had lost their lives due to the collapse of a PG in Satya Niketan of the capital. Whereas, five were injured. After this, on the instructions of Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) started the survey of all PGs and private hostels. This survey of MCD has revealed the great danger for the people living in PGs built in Delhi. According to the MCD survey, 99 percent of the PGs and hostels built in Delhi do not have fire NOC. At the same time, 3 out of every 10 PGs and hostels have been made multi-storey without getting the map passed.
Indian Express newspaper has reported that MCD surveyed 2453 PGs and hostels. Of these, only 1.2 percent have received fire NOC. After the accident in Satya Niketan, MCD was earlier reprimanded by Delhi High Court. After which CM Rekha Gupta tightened the screws. After which MCD started the survey of PG and private hostels in all the 12 zones of Delhi. In the survey, the strength of the structure of PG and hostel, the certificate of how many people can stay in it, and whether they followed the rules of the Master Plan of Delhi were checked. According to the survey, only 726 PGs and hostels in Delhi have been built as per the passed map. The survey found that the structures of only 8 buildings were strong.
According to the news, maximum 608 PGs were found in Civil Lines Zone of North Campus of Delhi University. Of these, only 364 were built as per the approved map. 28 got fire NOC and 27 got approval to run PG. The structure of any PG was not found strong in Civil Lines zone. That means an accident can happen any time. At the same time, out of 410 PGs built in Keshav Puram zone, 54 have been built as per the approved plan. In this zone, only two PGs got fire NOC and structural strength certificate. No one has the occupancy certificate. Not a single one of the 390 PGs in the South Zone, home to renowned institutes like Delhi University's South Campus, IIT Delhi and JNU, had fire NOC and other approvals.
