Pakistan’s 21-year-old fast bowler Razaullah was given a grand welcome in Islamabad after he returned home from the tour of England. He was sensational on his debut in the third and final Test of the series. His family members, friends and fans were present at the airport to receive him, as his magnificent all-round display has made him a star in the longest format of the game.
Razaullah was lauded for his contributions with the bat and ball, but Pakistan suffered a big loss and ended up losing a bilateral assignment by a margin of 0-3. The youngster was added to the playing XI after seven players were sent back following the disastrous result in the Lord’s Test.

He dismissed England captain Joe Root on the fourth delivery, with the legendary batter failing to put a bat on the ball. The seamer added three more wickets to his tally. He was unstoppable with the bat. Batting at No.9, with Pakistan in a tough situation, he scored 81 runs off 43 balls. His maiden Test fifty helped the sub-continent take a lead of 129 runs.
He struck nine sixes, equalling Ben Stokes’ record for the most sixes by a batter in a Test innings in England. He also matched Tim Southee’s record for the most sixes by a debutant in Test innings.
Razaullah’s was one of the main reasons behind Pakistan going past the 400-run mark in their second innings. The visiting team had posted 133 in their first innings.
He added 121 runs for the 8th wicket with Mohammad Abbas, who made 42. Razaullah went after the bowlers and gave respectability to Pakistan’s total. He was dismissed by Lawrence, leaving him short of what would have been a remarkable century.
Razaullah’s emergence was one of the positives on what was a miserable tour. Apart from him, Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Imran were also given their Test caps.
Pakistan also sacked Test head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul after the debacle.
Pakistan didn’t have anything to celebrate from the series, and the PCB has ordered a probe to find the reasons behind the failures of big names.
Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha and Imam-ul-Haq were the three senior players who returned home midway through the tour. Rizwan and Imam are also facing allegations of match-fixing, and they were recently questioned by a government agency. Imam is likely to be banned for two years for faking his injury in the second red-ball game, while Rizwan’s career is almost over.
