New Delhi: A major incident at sea has again fueled the tension between India and Pakistan. An Indian Navy warship collided with a Pakistani Navy ship in the North Arabian Sea, after which India took strict action and summoned Pakistan's diplomat. This incident has once again brought to light the sensitive situation going on between the two countries on the maritime border.
The incident occurred when the Indian warship was deployed on its routine surveillance mission in international waters. During such missions, naval ships keep an eye on the maritime border and take note of any suspicious activity. Meanwhile, a ship of Pakistan Navy came close to the Indian ship at high speed and collided with it while moving unsafely. India has described this action of Pakistani Navy as 'unacceptable and unprofessional'.
India summoned on Wednesday
After this incident, India summoned Pakistan's 'Chargé d'Affaires' in New Delhi on Wednesday and registered its strong protest. The Ministry of External Affairs clearly stated that this collision took place in international waters and this behavior of the Pakistani ship is a direct violation of Article 10 of the agreement signed between India and Pakistan in 1991. This agreement is related to maintaining a safe distance between the armies of the two countries in the sea and airspace.
Advised to follow agreements
From the Indian side, the Pakistani diplomat was clearly told to convey this message to the concerned authorities in Islamabad that all military units should exercise utmost caution while operating at sea. It was also said that to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future, it is necessary to respect the terms of bilateral agreements between the two countries. Let us tell you that 'Chargé d'Affaires' is a senior diplomatic post, which handles the day-to-day functioning of the embassy and when the ambassador is not present, this officer plays the role of chief of mission.
Protest will be registered in Islamabad also
The Government of India has also directed that India's 'Chargé d'Affaires' posted in Islamabad should lodge a similar formal protest with the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan. There is also a possibility of further talks between the two sides on this issue, so that such incidents do not happen again in the sea.
