New Delhi. Politics has started regarding the decision to impose charges on UPI payments. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to bow before US President Donald Trump and give huge amount of money to America. Rahul Gandhi said that the government should immediately withdraw the fee imposed on UPI.

Linking this policy of the government to the common Indians, he raised the question as to why there was a need to impose fees on everyday digital payment systems like UPI. Actually, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made an important announcement on Tuesday. Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will be applicable on select person-to-merchant (P2M) UPI transactions from October 15. Under this, merchants will have to pay 0.4% charge on transactions above Rs 2,000 and the maximum charge will be Rs 300 for payments of Rs 75,000 or more.

Along with this, Rahul Gandhi has demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision to impose fee on UPI payments. They allege that this step of the government will increase the financial burden on the people. On the other hand, it has been clarified in the government's decision that everyday transactions and small payments made between person to person have not been kept under the ambit of any fee.
