Srinagar, 17 September 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has supported the Central Government regarding the charges on UPI transactions. In a special conversation with the media, he said that maintaining and operating the digital payment infrastructure is not cheap. However, at the same time, he also gave special advice to the Central Government to take care of the interests of the common citizens.
The Chief Minister clarified that this charge is not being imposed on everyone. Transferring money from one individual account to another is completely free. Additionally, normal customers are not charged any fees unless they transact more than a certain limit.
Omar Abdullah had said, “When a facility is available absolutely free, people often do not understand its value. But the central government should ensure that the common poor or middle class is not burdened with this charge. There is nothing wrong if big businessmen and companies are charged, because they earn huge profits from UPI.”

Details given regarding assembly session
In response to a question regarding the next assembly session, he said that the priority of the government would be to ensure that the functioning of the House runs peacefully and all the MLAs get satisfactory answers. Being a Union Territory, legislative work is somewhat limited, but public-related issues, bills and proposals will be presented in the House. He emphatically said that all the MLAs from the ruling party and the opposition will be given ample opportunity to raise issues related to their respective constituencies.
