From Damani to Chris Gopalakrishnan: Big investors holding shares

New Delhi/Mumbai. The initial public offering (IPO) of the country’s largest exchange National Stock Exchange (NSE) has opened for investors. Bids to invest in this can be made till September 21, 2026.

Investors were waiting for this IPO for a long time. NSE has raised Rs 6,746.18 crore from anchor investors on Wednesday.

This IPO of NSE is also throwing light on those well-known investors and business leaders who have made stake in the stock exchange even before its public listing.

The names included in the company’s Red Herring Prospectus (RHP) also include DMart founder Radhakishan Damani, Hero Enterprise chairman Sunil Kant Munjal, Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan and stock market veterans Ramdev Aggarwal and Motilal Oswal.

Radhakishan Damani holds around 3.91 crore shares (1.58 per cent) of NSE. As per the upper end of the IPO price band of Rs 1,785, the value of his holding is around Rs 6,977 crore.

Munjal holds 1.02 crore shares, while Gopalakrishnan holds 94.29 lakh shares. As per the NSE IPO price band of Rs 1,785 per share, the value of these stakes is approximately Rs 1,821 crore and Rs 1,683 crore respectively.

Other major shareholders include Agarwal and Oswal, who hold 8 lakh shares each. At the upper end of the price band, their value is around Rs 143 crore.

At the same time, NSE has raised Rs 6,746.18 crore from anchor investors on Wednesday. Anchor investors include many large institutional investors including Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Goldman Sachs and Fidelity.

It is noteworthy that NSE’s IPO worth Rs 22,569 crore opened for subscription today. This three-day issue will close on September 21. This IPO is an offer for sale (OFS) of 12.64 crore shares entirely by existing shareholders.
