Ajit Agarkar Wants to Step Down: Ajit Agarkar has decided to step down from the post of Chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His current contract is ending on October 4 and he does not want to work as a selector further after this. According to the report, Agarkar has informed BCCI about his decision.
A BCCI official said, “Agarkar has informed BCCI just before the AGM that he does not want to continue as a selector after the expiry of his contract on October 4.” Ajit Agarkar was made the head selector of the Indian team in the year 2023. During his contract, he played a role in many important decisions related to team selection. Now after Agarkar’s removal, BCCI will have to choose a new chairman for the Senior Selection Committee. According to the report, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel is among the names who are being seen as a possible successor to Agarkar.
Agarkar had given the hint in February itself. According to the report, Agarkar had discussed his future with senior BCCI officials in February this year itself. At that time, he had informed the board officials about exploring options after his current contract. A BCCI official said, “In his communication, Agarkar has referred to the previous conversation with the board in February, when he had asked the top decision makers to explore options after the expiry of the current contract.” BCCI officials got responsibility: A few hours before the information about Agarkar’s decision came to light, PTI had reported that the member units of BCCI have authorized the officials of the board to take decisions on matters related to the selection committee. A senior BCCI official said, “Officers have been briefed to take decisions on matters related to the selection committee.” Now the Board has to fill all the five posts of the Junior Selection Committee apart from the new Chairman of the Senior Selection Committee.
