Anthropic has launched Claude Docsexpanding its AI assistant beyond chat and into document creation, editing and collaboration. The move puts Claude in more direct competition with established productivity platforms such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
The new feature is part of Anthropic’s broader effort to turn Claude into an AI-powered workspace for everyday knowledge workrather than simply a chatbot for answering questions.
Create and Edit Documents Inside Claude
Claude Docs allows users to create documents directly within a Claude conversation. Users can ask the AI to draft sections, revise existing content, answer questions about a document, comment on editorial decisions and make changes based on feedback.
Multiple people can also work on the same document simultaneously, bringing collaborative editing capabilities similar to traditional online document platforms.
Documents are private by default, while users can share them with selected people or an entire organisation. Completed documents can also be exported to Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
Claude Becomes a Broader Workspace
Anthropic is also merging its regular Claude chat experience with Claude Coworkallowing users to access work-focused capabilities without switching between separate products.
Claude can now determine which tools are needed for a particular task and use capabilities such as document creation, visual design and other productivity features from within the same conversation.
The company is also integrating Claude Design into the unified experience.
Claude Slides Expands the Challenge
Anthropic has launched Claude Slides in beta alongside Claude Docs.
Users can ask Claude to create presentations, modify individual slides and present directly from the platform. Presentations can be exported in PowerPoint or PDF formats.
Claude Design can also create one-page visual materials and graphics that users can subsequently edit and export.
Together, the tools allow users to move from an idea to a document, presentation or visual asset without having to switch between multiple applications.
Microsoft Office Faces AI-First Competition
The launch brings Anthropic into greater competition with Microsoft’s long-established Word and PowerPoint ecosystem.
Microsoft already integrates AI capabilities into its Office products, while Anthropic is taking a different approach by making document and presentation creation part of an AI-first conversational workspace.
OpenAI has also been moving in the same direction by combining ChatGPT with tools designed to handle broader workplace tasks.
Initially Available to Paid Users
Claude Docs and Claude Slides are being rolled out initially to Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop and mobile platforms.
Anthropic plans to extend the features to Team and Free users later.
The development signals a wider shift in the AI industry, where companies are increasingly trying to make AI assistants the central interface for writing, presentations, research and other knowledge-work tasks.
