BCCI New Chief Selector Process: Will Parthiv Patel become the new Chief Selector of Team India? Complete inside process of recruitment of selectors in BCCI!

The tenure of Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of the Senior Men's Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is about to end. The final authority to reconstitute the selection committee and fill the vacancies has been handed over to the top officials of the board at the 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BCCI held in Mumbai.   • Cooling-off period of 5 years: The candidate must have formally retired from all forms of active cricket (domestic or international) at least 5 years ago.

  • There should be zero conflict of interest: The person to be the selector should not have any business relationship with any IPL franchise, cricket academy, player management agency or media/commentary contract. As soon as he becomes a selector, he has to immediately resign from all such posts.

The recruitment of selectors is not done solely at the discretion of the Board officials, but a transparent and formal process is adopted for this:

  • 1. Official Advertisement (Official Job Notification): BCCI releases public advertisement for the vacant post on its official website, which contains the eligibility, rules and last date of application.

  • 2. Shortlisting: The BCCI administration scrutinizes all the applications received and a shortlist of candidates who meet the Test match experience and retirement criteria is prepared.

  • 3. Interview by Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC): Interview of shortlisted candidates by BCCI Autonomous Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) Is taken by. The CAC comprises the game's stalwart former cricketers, who quiz the candidates on the roadmap of Indian cricket, their understanding of the domestic circuit and identifying young talent.

  • 4. Selection of Chairman on the basis of seniority: The CAC submits its final list of recommendations to the top officials of the BCCI (Apex Council). Out of the five members selected in the panel, the former cricketer who has the most Test match experience is automatically declared the Chairman (Chief Selector) of the Senior Selection Committee.

  • 5. Formal Approval and Contract: After getting the seal of approval of the Apex Council, the formal appointment letter is issued. The annual salary of the Chief Selector ranges between approximately ₹1 crore to ₹1.25 crore, while other members receive an annual honorarium of around ₹90 lakh to ₹1 crore.
