The green-maroon secured the title by defeating Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-2 in the last match of Kolkata Football League (CFL 2026-27) at the Barasat Stadium on Saturday. After eight years, Mohun Bagan brought home the Kolkata League trophy. This is the 31st Calcutta League title in the club’s history.
Drama in a breathless match
Although Mohun Bagan was ahead on paper at the beginning of the match, Mohammedan did not leave the field easily. The ‘Black Panthers’ returned to the match despite falling behind twice. Mohammedan equalized twice with goals from Lalremsanga Fanai and captain Mohitosh Roy. As a result, tension was created till the end of the match.
Sahal’s double goal
Sahal Abdul Samad is one of the heroes of Mohun Bagan’s victory. He played an important role in this match before joining the Indian team camp. Apart from scoring a pair of goals, he also contributed to the team’s winning goal. It was Sahal’s performance in the crucial moments of the match that led the green and maroon.
