Change in LPG subsidy rules from October 1, benefits will not be available without Aadhaar verification.

LPG Subsidy: The government has made a big change regarding the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders. To avail the subsidy from October 1, consumers will be required to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication. The government says that the purpose of this step is to make the subsidy system transparent and prevent misuse through fake or duplicate connections.

Consumers who have already completed the Aadhaar biometric verification or e-KYC process will not need to do the process again.

Verification of 27.43 crore customers completed

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as of September 19, Aadhaar biometric verification of 27.43 crore active domestic LPG customers of the country has been completed. This is about 89.9 percent of the total consumers.

The government had earlier set a deadline of June 30 to complete the verification, which was later extended to September 14.

Subsidized cylinder will be available only after verification

In September 2026, an indirect subsidy of about Rs 210 is being given on 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder. According to the ministry, customers who have not yet done Aadhaar biometric verification will be able to book subsidized cylinders only after completing the process.

However, LPG supply to consumers who do not get verification done will not be stopped, but they will not get the benefit of subsidy. Such customers will have to buy the cylinder at market price.

Complete e-KYC like this sitting at home

Consumers can get Aadhaar biometric verification done by visiting the showroom of the LPG distributor or through the mobile app of the delivery employee at the time of cylinder delivery. Apart from this, this process can also be completed through the mobile apps of oil companies.

Indane customers can get e-KYC done at home through IndianOil One app, BharatGas customers through HelloBPCL and HP Gas customers through HP Pay app. The government has also provided registration facilities to consumers through facilities like digital platforms, mobile apps, WhatsApp chatbot and IVRS.
