Why brought this rule?
The government says that this rule is not meant to trouble anyone. So this rule is to ensure that the subsidy money reaches the real needy people. Some people take homemade cylinders and sell them outside the hotel for more money. To stop all this misuse, the government has now decided to link every connection to Aadhaar and thumb. Once thumbed in, duplicate connections will be automatically closed and the system will be completely transparent.
Almost 90% of the people are employed
Those who have already done their biometrics do not need to do anything. Their gas will continue to flow as before. The government said that by 19 September 2026, 27.43 crore people i.e. 89.8% people have completed their biometrics in the country. That means there are still 10% people left. They should do this as soon as possible.
How to do verification?
For those who are still left, the government has given a very easy option. When your gas man comes to your home to deliver the cylinder, he can do the verification by taking your thumb on the OMC App in his mobile. You don't need to go anywhere.

e-KYC can also be done sitting at home. If you have Inden Gas then use Indian Oil One App. In case of Bharat Gas, Hello BPCL App and in case of HP Gas, you can do KYC from home through HP Pay App. There are also videos of this on PMUY portal, you can watch it. Earlier its last date was 30 June 2026, but the government extended it several times for the convenience of people. The date was extended to 31 July, 7 August, 15 August, 31 August and finally 14 September. But now this rule will become mandatory from October 1.
What will happen if the thumb is not applied?
If you don't want to or can't do biometrics, it doesn't mean you won't get gas. You will get gas but you will not get subsidy. You have to pay in full at market rate.
Such people will get only 5 kg or 10 kg cylinder, not 14.2 kg big cylinder. For that you have to go to OMC website or WhatsApp, Chatbot and tell your wish.

How much subsidy is available?
At present, the government continues to subsidize domestic cylinders. In September 2026, a 14.2 kg cylinder is getting a subsidy of Rs 210. The government says the subsidy will go up to Rs 721 by June next year. So if you want cheap gas then put your thumb and complete the verification as soon as possible.
