New Delhi : On 1 January 2023 the armyThe first batch of over 19,000 enlisted firemen will complete their 4-year tenure on December 31st, the same night their first government jobs will officially end. Although the Ministry of Defense has claimed to have prepared a special retirement scheme for firemen, firemen are worried about their future as the deadline approaches.
The biggest question is, after serving the country for 4 years, will these youngsters get permanent job appointment letter on January 1st, or will they have to face an uphill battle for employment once? This question is still unanswered. As per the provisions of Agneepath Yojana, only 25% of Agniveers will be inducted into the regular cadre of the Army. For this an internal examination will be conducted before the completion of their tenure. This means that out of every 100 fire fighters, 75 will have to retire from the army in any case. Out of the first batch of 19,000, more than 14,000 youths will have to retire.
The future depends on paper plans
The government says that 75 per cent of the retiring firemen will be employed in paramilitary forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF and Railways. For this, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also given 10 percent reservation and exemption from physical examinations. However, the fact remains that the recruitment process for vacancies in government departments takes months and even years. Hence, there is great doubt about the feasibility of getting a letter of engagement for another job immediately after retirement on 31st December.
No pension and canteen facilities
After 4 years of service, Agniveer will be released from service with a service fund package of approximately Rs.11 lakhs. But unlike regular soldiers, they will not get lifetime pension, ECHS medical facilities or canteen facilities like ex-servicemen.
Early retirement
While the average youth starts their career at the age of 21-22, these once government employed youngsters will lose their first job on December 31 and face the uncertainty of a new future.
