New Delhi . West Indies has announced its ODI and T20 teams for the upcoming limited overs series against India. The captaincy of the team announced for both the formats has been handed over to Shai Hope. The limited overs series between India and West Indies will start from September 27, in which the first three ODI matches will be played and followed by the T20 series.
The first match of the three-match ODI series will be played on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. After this, the second ODI will be played in Guwahati on 30 September, while the third and final match will be played in Mullanpur on 3 October. After the ODI series, both the teams will face each other in T20 matches.
West Indies' ODI team includes Shai Hope along with Jewel Andrew, John Campbell, Casey Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Ford, Justin Greaves, Aamir Jangu, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Vittel Lawes, Gudakesh Moti, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford and Jayden Seales.
John Campbell has returned to the ODI team. He could not play the last two ODIs against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. Now he has got a place in the team for the India tour. On the other hand, Akeem Auguste will not be a part of this tour. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation after surgery in August.
Jewel Andrew has been included in the ODI team in place of Akeem Auguste. He is being seen as a batting option in the top and middle order. This has given additional options to the batting order in the ODI team.
There are many changes visible in the T20 team as compared to the ODI team. The team captained by Shai Hope includes Jewel Andrew, Roston Chase, Matthew Ford, Shimron Hetmyer, Akil Hussain, Shamara Joseph, Gudakesh Moti, Keemo Paul, Kamil Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer.
The special thing about the T20 team is the inclusion of Kamil Puran for the first time. The rising opening batsman has scored 273 runs in eight innings. His strike rate was 159.64 and batting average was 39. His selection in the West Indies team is being considered an important step towards giving opportunities to young talent.
Looking at both the teams, it is clear that for the ODI and T20 formats, West Indies have given place to different players as per their needs. Continuity in leadership has been maintained by giving Shai Hope the responsibility of captaincy in both the formats. Whereas in the T20 team, there is special focus on aggressive batting and young options.
West Indies will face the challenge of a strong performance in limited overs on the India tour. The matches between the two teams will start from September 27 and after the ODI series, competition will be seen in T20 format.
