Traffic police clamp down on those who consider the road as a parking lot, 7-day aggressive campaign in the Central Range, 5,644 challans and 1,048 vehicle clamps

New Delhi:Delhi Traffic Police has now intensified its action against illegal and roadside parking which is disturbing the traffic on the roads of the capital. In the special campaign that ran from 14 to 20 September in the Central Range, swift action was taken against those who parked vehicles breaking the rules. During the campaign, 5,644 challans were issued while 1,048 vehicles causing obstruction to traffic were clamped.

Additional CP Traffic Headquarters Pratiksha Godara said that the traffic police targeted major roads, markets, commercial areas, busy intersections and places with traffic jams for this campaign. Surveillance was especially increased at those places where traffic is affected daily due to haphazard parking of vehicles on the road.

Crackdown on rule breakers in northern range too

As many as 7,534 traffic violations were processed during the special enforcement operation conducted on Friday and Saturday in the Northern Range. 913 challans were issued for driving without helmet, 391 for driving in wrong direction, 329 for no entry violation, 166 for dangerous driving and 89 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the drivers to park their vehicles only at designated parking spots. Parking incorrectly on roads, footpaths, intersections and around traffic signals not only causes inconvenience to other drivers but also reduces the available road space and creates traffic jams.

Delhi Traffic Police has clarified that action against wrong parking and obstruction to traffic will continue in future also. Emphasis is being laid on ensuring road discipline and safe traffic system by further strengthening surveillance and enforcement in various ranges.
