Increased tension among those taking LPG cylinders! If 'this work' is not done before October 1, the subsidy will be stopped?

If you also use LPG cylinder and avail subsidy, then this news is very important for you. According to the new government rules, it has been made mandatory to complete biometric authentication for booking subsidized domestic LPG cylinders from October 1. Those who have not yet completed the biometric test may face difficulty in getting the cylinder at the subsidized rate.

How many people have completed the process?

According to the information received from the government, out of the total active domestic LPG consumers in the country, 27.43 crore i.e. about 89.9 percent consumers have already completed their biometric authentication. Such consumers no longer need to do any procedure again. Their LPG booking and subsidy will continue as normal as before.

Do verification easily at home like this

If your biometric authentication is still pending, there is no need to worry. You can complete this process sitting at home or easily through these options:

  • When LPG cylinder is delivered to your home, you can get it done through the mobile app of the delivery person.
  • You can also complete this by directly visiting the showroom of your nearest LPG distributor.
  • The process can be completed from home using the official mobile apps of the respective Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
  • Indane Gas customers can easily verify themselves through 'Indian Oil One', Bharat Gas customers through 'HelloBPCL' and HP Gas customers through 'HP PAY' app.

You will get cylinder even if you don't want subsidy

The way is also open for those consumers who do not want to do biometric authentication for some reason. Such people can continue taking LPG cylinders without any interruption. For this, they will have to register their choice through their OMC's digital channel, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS. Such customers will be given LPG cylinders at market fixed price without subsidy. Apart from this, smaller cylinders of 5 kg or 10 kg will also be available depending on local availability.

The deadline has been extended several times

Let us tell you that the initial last date for completing this biometric authentication was fixed as June 30, 2026. However, to give adequate time to consumers, this deadline was extended several times and finally it was extended till September 14, 2026. Under this campaign being run by the government from October 2023, more than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp messages have been sent to customers. Apart from this, people have also been continuously made aware through gas distributors, delivery staff and special camps.

Government expenditure on LPG subsidy

According to government data, the subsidy linked to the difference between the actual cost and selling price on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is around Rs 210 per cylinder in September 2026. At the same time, in June 2026, this figure had increased to around Rs 721. To handle the burden of LPG subsidy, the government had given a compensation of Rs 22,000 crore to OMCs in the financial year 2022-23. After this, Rs 30,000 crore is being given for this during the financial years 2025-26 and 2026-27 also.

Do the work before October 1

The government has appealed to all those domestic LPG consumers whose biometric authentication is still pending, to complete it before October 1 at all costs. If you need any kind of assistance or information related to LPG services, you can contact the government toll-free helpline number 1800 2333 555.
