Varanasi. UP ATS has killed Naxalite Brijesh Ganjhu alias Gopal Singh Bhokta carrying a reward of Rs 30 lakh in Varanasi. He was the commander of the third presentation committee of the Naxalite organization. Brijesh was declared wanted in terror funding eight years ago. NIA had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh and Jharkhand government had announced a reward of Rs 25 lakh on him. According to the information, UP STF surrounded Brijesh Ganjhu in the early hours of Sunday at Lanka Maidan of Tengra Mod in Ramnagar police station area of Varanasi.
According to UP ATS, intelligence was received that Naxalite Brijesh was in Varanasi and was going somewhere on bike in the early hours. A siege was laid on it at Tengra Mod. When Brijesh Ganjhu reached by bike at five in the morning, he was asked to stop. Brijesh opened fire on the ATS team. ATS personnel also retaliated. In which Brijesh was hit by several bullets. In this encounter, bulletproof jackets saved the lives of UP ATS DSP Vipin Rai and Head Constable Nitendra Krishna. Several bullets fired by Brijesh hit the bulletproof jackets of both of them.
Naxalite commander Brijesh Ganjhu was on the radar of security agencies of Jharkhand. However, he always managed to escape by dodging. Varanasi Police and UP ATS are now finding out why Brijesh Ganjhu came to Varanasi and which people he met.
