Former England captain Michael Vaughan blind-ranked five great T20 batters ahead of the Asian Games 2026. Virat Kohli was given the last spot because of the order of the available options.
England opener Phil Salt was placed at four, with the retired Australian cricketer David Warner getting the No.3 spot. AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, who played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League, earned the two spots.
Gayle is one of the most decorated batters in the shortest format of the game. In 463 matches, he scored 14,562 runs, including 22 hundreds. Warner and Kohli posted 14,284 and 14,218 runs, respectively.
De Villiers, who topped Vaughan’s rankings, amassed 9,424 runs at a strike rate of over 150 on 340 T20 innings. In 353 T20 matches, Salt has accumulated 8,901 runs at a strike rate of 153.48.
Moeen Ali names greatest captain
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali picked the greatest captains across formats in a This or That format. Legendary India skipper Rohit Sharma passed several rounds because of his record in the IPL and in international matches.
Rohit led the Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL titles and India to two ICC trophies. Ali preferred his former CSK teammate MS Dhoni over Rohit.
Dhoni captained Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL trophies, including two with Moeen Ali in the team. The wicket-keeper batter also won three ICC titles as captain. India secured the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy under his leadership.
Ali picked Dhoni over the great Australian captain Ricky Ponting and 2019 World Cup-winning England leader Eoin Morgan in the last two rounds.
Ponting tops the list of the most successful captains, winning 240 international games. On the other hand, Dhoni is second with 178 victories.
