At least three people were killed in a Pakistani airstrike in north-eastern Afghanistan on Monday. Afghan officials have confirmed the attack. This incident has again increased tension between the two neighboring countries after almost three months of peace.
Monday's airstrike came days after a major attack on a police station in northwestern Pakistan. At least 16 people were killed in the attack. Taliban deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said in a post on the social media platform 'X' that the Pakistani airstrike targeted a house in Kunar province. Three members of the same family were killed in the attack, while four others were injured.
He further said that two bomb attacks were also carried out in Barmal district of Paktika province. A shop and an empty house were destroyed. However, there is no news of any casualties in these attacks. There has been no official reaction from the Pakistani Army on this matter.
Earlier in July, Afghanistan also carried out drone attacks on Pakistan. At that time Islamabad had claimed that the Pakistani Army had shot down the drone in the air. The worst fight between the two countries this year took place in March. At that time, more than 400 people were killed in Pakistan's airstrike on Kabul. The Afghan Taliban claimed that a drug de-addiction center was targeted in the attack. However, Islamabad rejected the allegation and said that only military positions and terrorist infrastructure were targeted.
This latest attack has increased the risk of a war-like situation again in the two neighboring countries. Earlier in February this year too, there was a lot of tension and conflict on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This confrontation was the biggest confrontation between the two countries in the last several years.
