Meloni addressed the youth wing of his nationalist-conservative 'Brothers of Italy' party. He said the proposed measure would add another important rule. According to this, Italian language classes will be made mandatory for the parents of those foreign students who are facing 'serious difficulties in assimilating into the school system'.
“For us, anyone who comes to Italy and wants to build a future here must learn our language,” Meloni said to applause at the 'Gioventu Nazionale' national festival in Rome. “They must understand our culture and respect our rules.” Meloni insisted that “this is the only serious way to welcome them.”
Meloni specifically mentioned the ban on the burqa. Burqa is a dress worn by some Muslim women that covers the entire body. He also announced a ban on niqab. The niqab is worn by some very conservative Muslim women; Only eyes are visible. However, Meloni did not mention hijab in her speech on Sunday (September 20). Hijab is a scarf that some Muslim women wear on their heads. Once the government approves the move, it will need Parliament's approval to become law. This approval should be given within 60 days.
