India’s men’s kabaddi team will begin its Asian Games 2026 campaign against hosts Japan on Monday, September 21, as the defending champions start their bid to retain the gold medal won at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
The Group A encounter is scheduled for 9:45 am IST at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium. The match will be broadcast live on the Sony Sports network, while live streaming will be available on SonyLIV, according to broadcaster information reported by NDTV.
India face Japan in opening group match
India have been drawn in Group A alongside Japan, Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh. Group B comprises Iran, Nepal, Thailand, Pakistan and Malaysia.
The group-stage draw keeps India and Iran, two of the sport’s major forces, in separate groups. India will therefore begin the competition with Japan standing between them and a winning start to their title defence.
