The fast bowler Jack Edwards is set to make his ODI debut after being added to Australia squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
The all-rounder is currently travelling from Puducherry in India to Durban ahead of Thursday’s opening ODI. He is currently in the squad with Australia A for four four-day games against India A.
His inclusion comes after fast bowler Billy Stanlake has been ruled out of the series after suffering a side strain during the ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Edwards made his international debut in a T20I against Pakistan earlier this year. The seam-bowling, middle-order batter has not played at ODI level but was a late addition to the 50-over squad for last summer’s matches against India.
On the other hand, uncapped all-rounder Joel Davies from New South Wales could also make his debut in the upcoming series.
Meanwhile, Matthew Renshaw, Ollie Peake, Cooper Connolly and Travis Head, who managed the spin department during the ODI series against Zimbabwe, will cover the spin department during the South Africa tour.
On the other hand, Spencer Johnson has been released from the squad despite featuring in the series against Zimbabwe. The left-hander is not injured but has been rested to manage his workload.
He will be joining the Australia A squad for the upcoming three-match one-dayers in Puducherry scheduled for next month.
Australia will have Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc joining the squad in Durban, with Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood and Xavier Bartlett providing the other pace options.
Meanwhile, Cameron Green might be returning to the squad after missing the Zimbabwe series.
Australia travelled to South Africa on Monday ahead of the three-match ODI series in Durban on Thursday, with the second and third matches to be played at The Wanderers Stadium and Potchefstroom ahead of the Test series.
