Former India fast bowler Chetan Sharma is backing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the 2027 ODI World Cup, considering their batting form. Calling age just a number, Chetan believes only performance should decide the selection of the two veterans.
Rohit scored 138 off 110 balls in the ODI series decider against England. Kohli has been consistent, amassing his runs at an average of 64 and a strike rate of 107 in six innings so far in 2026.
“If they are scoring runs and are fit, then why not? I am asking this question to everyone. I know people are saying a lot of things. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the Kohinoor of Indian cricket. Age is just a number, as they say. If they are good there shouldn’t be any issue. I was a selector. Rohit recently scored a hundred at Lord’s while Virat is also scoring runs in almost every game. What is the problem?” he told TOI.
“We need match-winners in the team, and they both are capable of doing it. I love watching these two bat for India and win trophies for the country. Rohit led us to a trophy win after so many years. We should be grateful and shouldn’t listen to other people,” he added.

Kohli and Rohit are in the second and third spots in the list of leading run-getters for India in the history of the ODI World Cup, amassing 1,795 and 1,575 runs, respectively. The legendary duo are also second and third in the overall ODI runs list of Indian batters, with 14,941 and 11,895 runs to their names.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to return to action against the West Indies
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was last seen in action during the three-ODI series against England in July. Since the bilateral assignment loss, the Men in Blue have been involved in T20Is and Test cricket.
Both Rohit and Virat have retired from the shortest format and red-ball cricket. They will be donning the Indian jersey again in under a week.
The sun-continent team will compete against the West Indies in three-match ODI series at home, starting September 27. They were included in the 15-member squad and will be among the top three batters in the series opener in Thiruvananthapuram.
