Jamui. Police have intensified action after the video of alleged misbehavior and assault on a minor student on the road in Jamui, Bihar went viral on social media. The incident is said to have taken place on the evening of 19 September. According to the police, both the minors study in the same coaching institute and after coaching, they had gone on a scooty towards Madwa hilly area. While returning, some youths stopped him on the way, surrounded him and misbehaved with him.
In the viral video, many people are seen surrounding the two and interrogating and misbehaving with them. The video allegedly shows the girl being sexually assaulted and being dragged, while the student accompanying her is also seen being assaulted and misbehaved. A video was recorded during the incident, which later spread on social media.
The matter reached the police after the video went viral
According to Jamui SP Vishwajit Dayal, the police got information about the case through a viral video. Based on the examination of the video, the victim students were identified and their statements were recorded. After this, FIR was registered after taking complaint from the family members. The police have initiated action in the case under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code including the POCSO Act.
The police started identifying the suspects seen in the video and information about seven people has been identified. Three of these accused have been arrested. Police are continuously raiding to search for the remaining accused. SIT has been formed to investigate the matter.
Women's Commission also took cognizance
The National Commission for Women has also taken cognizance of the incident. Commission chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has sent a letter to the Director General of Police of Bihar seeking identification and arrest of all the accused in the case, fair and time-bound investigation and action report. Police is also taking action to remove the viral video.
Police investigation is ongoing in this matter. At the same time, to ensure that the identity of minor victims is not revealed, their names, photos and any such information should not be shared which could reveal their identity.
