Asian Games 2026. The Indian women's cricket team has brilliantly defended its gold medal in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games-2026. Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, retained the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs on Tuesday.
Indian batsmen showed their strength
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Indian team scored a huge score of 216 runs after losing three wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. On behalf of the team, opener Smriti Mandhana batted brilliantly and scored 79 runs in 45 balls. His innings included seven sixes and five fours. Mandhana along with Shefali Verma made a strong partnership of 99 runs for the first wicket and was out in the 17th over.
Shefali missed her half-century by just two runs. He scored 48 runs in 29 balls with the help of three fours and as many sixes. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur could score only 19 runs. In the end, wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh put the team in a strong position by playing a brilliant inning of 49 not out off 22 balls.
Sri Lanka's innings collapsed
Chasing the target of 217 runs, the Sri Lankan team could not stand against the Indian bowlers and the entire team collapsed for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs. The Indian bowlers maintained constant pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen and did not allow them to make big partnerships. With this spectacular victory, the Indian team once again proved that its dominance in women's cricket continues.
