AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Singh Pannu has accused Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia of circulating and sharing a fake audio recording without verifying its authenticity.
Pannu made the remarks while addressing the circulation of an alleged police advisory following the killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjit Singh. He said the audio being circulated on social media was fraudulent and had been repeatedly forwarded and posted without checking the facts.
“This is fake. It is a fake audio that they are continuously tweeting and forwarding without seeing, knowing or verifying it,” Pannu said.
He specifically questioned Warring and Majithia over their decision to circulate the audio, alleging that neither leader had properly examined the issue before sharing it.
“Raja Warring did not see this as an issue concerning a woman, nor did Bikram Singh Majithia see this matter. Perhaps they did not see it because they did not want to see it,” Pannu said, reiterating that the audio was fake and had been circulated without verification.
The controversy concerns an alleged advisory purportedly asking police personnel to avoid wearing uniforms while traveling to and from duty and instead wear civilian clothes.
Punjab Police Headquarters has subsequently clarified that no such advisory was issued.
In its fact-check, Punjab Police stated that neither the Police Headquarters nor any other Punjab Police office under it had issued an advisory directing police personnel to avoid wearing uniforms while going to or returning from duty, or instructing them to wear civilian clothes while commuting to or from duty.
The police clarification effectively establishes that the advisory being circulated was not an official Punjab Police communication.
