New Delhi. Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has once again expressed her desire to return to her country. In a TV interview, Sheikh Hasina said that it is my right to return to my country and there is no law that can stop me from returning to my country. Sheikh Hasina said that I am committed to return to my country by December 2026 and I want my return home to be peaceful and within the ambit of law. According to Hasina, the complete plans for her return are yet to be decided.
Sheikh Hasina said in an audio interview given to NDTV that she is ready to go to jail, but will not back down from her intention to return home by December. He rejected the death sentence awarded to him in Bangladesh as politically motivated. In November 2025, a tribunal in Bangladesh sentenced him to death. Hasina has talked about reviving the Awami League. He said, Awami League is the party which brought independence to Bangladesh and has been the guardian of the democratic aspirations of our country. She said she is already working to reconnect with supporters across Bangladesh.
Hasina said that I want to say openly that I want to return to my motherland and among my people. The question is not whether I will return to Bangladesh or not, but how to do so in a way that protects the interests of our country and its citizens. Sheikh Hasina said that the government formed after me was unconstitutional and acted out of revenge. He further said that some people have damaged my reputation by saying that I have fled the country.
