Increasing use of sunscreen
In India, sunscreen is no longer just a summer product. In recent years, the number of families purchasing it has increased rapidly. Companies are now developing sunscreens that not only provide sun protection, but also meet other skin needs. Currently, options like tinted sunscreens, makeup products with SPF and re-applyable sunscreen sprays are available in the market.
variety of new products
With the increase in demand for sunscreen in India, many new products are also coming into the market. Some sunscreens are lightweight, while others can be used with makeup. There are some products that are easy to reapply during the day. This shift is indicative of the fact that consumers are now looking for products that can perform multiple tasks simultaneously. For this reason, companies are introducing new options by combining sunscreen with skincare and makeup.
three times increase in purchases
Purchases increased more than 3 times in 4 years
According to data from Worldpanel by Numerator, about 42 lakh households in India purchased sunscreen in June 2022. This number will increase to 1.43 crore by June 2026. Thus, the number of households purchasing sunscreen has more than tripled in four years, with an average increase of 36 percent each year.
Changes in sunscreen products
Now sunscreen products are changing
Companies are now creating sunscreens that not only provide protection from the sun, but also meet other skin needs. These include tinted sunscreens, makeup with SPF, and sunscreens that can be easily reapplied. According to Mintel report, there is a growing focus on tinted sunscreens and makeup products with SPF. Tinted sunscreens have a lighter tint, which provides lighter coverage on the face as the sunscreen applies.
Companies are also focusing on sunscreens that can be easily reapplied during the day. Sunscreen sprays that can be applied over makeup are an example of this. Euromonitor's report also notes the shift to products like tinted SPF 50 and easy-to-reapply sprays. According to Euromonitor, sun care market sales in India are set to grow by 33 percent to Rs 25.8 billion by 2025. Apart from sunscreen, sun care also includes aftersun and other sun protection products.
