A policeman was attacked during an operation against illegal sand smuggling in Mahaswad of Satara district of Maharashtra. Police constable Mahaveer Kochran, who tried to stop the dumper without a license plate, was dragged by the dumper driver for nearly a kilometer. A policeman was seriously injured in this incident. Police have taken action in this case and arrested two accused.
The incident took place in Mhaswad city area on Sunday evening. Policeman Mahaveer Kokre was on a routine bike patrol when he spotted a suspicious dumper truck without a number plate. Feeling suspicious, he stopped the truck and signaled the driver to stop. After stopping the truck, the police investigated and found that sand was being transported illegally. He then asked the driver for a valid sand transport license. According to the police, the dumper driver started arguing with the policeman after being asked for his license. The driver then suddenly started the truck and tried to flee. The policeman tried to stop the truck and grabbed the door or side of the vehicle. It is alleged that instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and dragged the policeman for about a kilometer.
Policeman Mahaveer Kokre was seriously injured in this incident in Satara, Maharashtra. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. After treatment, the Mahaswad police registered a case based on the policeman’s statement. Acting, the police arrested two accused involved in the incident. The police are now investigating the case further and are also probing the illegal sand transport network and the ownership of the dumper. The police are now interrogating the arrested accused and trying to trace the entire network.
