REDMAGIC is making changes to the physical design of its upcoming flagship gaming smartphone. The company has unveiled its upcoming REDMAGIC 12 Pro+, with a sleeker, thinner, and more slender design before its launch, slated for October 2026. The new design comes with a much slimmer display bezel, and REDMAGIC is making efforts towards getting an uninterrupted screen devoid of punch-holes.
This news is important because REDMAGIC has always relied on the aggressive and angular designs associated with gaming smartphones. However, with the 12 Pro+, the company seems to have prioritized ergonomic design despite retaining the hardware-based identity of its gaming range.
0.96mm Bezel Is the Biggest Design Change
The other very evident upgrade, as per the teaser, is the display bezel. As per the REDMAGIC official, the screen bezel is now 0.96mm compared to 1.25mm in the previous generation models. This is the first time in the series that the bezel is below the 1mm mark.
Although the numbers may seem insignificant on paper, having thinner borders means that manufacturers can increase the visual space of the screen even as the overall dimensions of the phone remain the same. For the gaming phone, the upgrade is important in ensuring that there is no interruption of the display while playing or viewing videos.
Even more significant is the fact that the phone maintains the front-facing under-display camera. It was known that the REDMAGIC 12 series was going to incorporate the ninth-generation under-display camera technology.
This is one of the challenging technologies for manufacturers, considering that they need to ensure quality image capture while maintaining the transparency of the screen area housing the camera lens.
REDMAGIC Improves the Form Factor of the Smartphone
Finally, there is an ergonomic improvement. In the description of the new smartphone, REDMAGIC says that the 12 Pro+ is lighter, slimmer, narrower, and more rounded compared to the old phone. The teaser photos show some alterations in the frame and corner rounding, which deviate from the squared form factor of past REDMAGIC flagships.
Such a design is especially important for gaming phones since they can be held by users horizontally for hours at a time. A large battery, cooling system, and other performance features of gaming smartphones can result in higher weights compared to regular flagships.
The previous REDMAGIC 11 Pro+ had a weight of 230 grams according to Notebookcheck, although REDMAGIC has not revealed the exact weight of the new smartphone yet.
Thus, such a design alteration of the 12 Pro+ should solve one of the real issues with gaming phones focused on performance. However, only hands-on experience can prove whether this alteration improves the situation or not.
REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ Performance Remains Paramount
These changes don’t point to any shift on REDMAGIC’s part away from performance. Previous statements by REDMAGIC officials had highlighted performance at high load and prolonged cooling along with the slimmer form factor. An advanced cooling system is also expected to be kept, though several technical specifications are still unconfirmed.
The company has confirmed that the REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ will be available in October 2026. An exact release date is yet to be disclosed.
Some reports mentioned a new Snapdragon flagship chipset as well as additional performance improvements, but this information should be separated from the design information that has officially been unveiled so far. The full specification list, price, and other details haven’t been released yet.
