New Delhi. The Finance Ministry on Wednesday said that in view of the proposed strike of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), all banks including Regional Rural Banks will remain open on Sunday, September 27 for the convenience of customers.
UFBU has called for a three-day nationwide strike from 28 to 30 September. Its main demands include implementing five days of working days a week in banks. The organization claims to represent about 90 percent of the employees in the bank sector.
The ministry said in a statement that in view of the proposed three-day strike from September 28 to 30 and the preceding Saturday and Sunday holidays on September 26 and 27, the government has taken steps to provide banking services to the customers.
To ensure that the banking needs of the public are not impacted for a long period, all public sector banks and regional rural banks will operate normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the statement said. The Reserve Bank of India has given approval to keep all bank branches, offices, ATM connected branches and 'currency chests' fully operational from September 27.
