- Rs 811 crore contract with BDL as a boost for self-reliant India
New Delhi, 24 September 2026: satellite-guided smart anti-airfield weapons for the IAF Defense Ministry Indian Air Force A total contract worth Rs 810.79 crore has been signed with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the purchase of 160 Satellite Smart Anti Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) along with related equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF). This agreement has been signed under the 'Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured – IDDM)' category. This agreement was signed in the presence of Defense Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh on 23 September 2026 in New Delhi.
SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision guided glide bomb, which can be launched from platforms like Jaguar, Hawk and Sukhoi (Su-30 MKI). It has the capability to disable enemy airfields and runways from a very safe distance (long stand-off range).
This system, indigenously designed and developed by DRDO, will have 60% indigenous content. To further boost 'self-reliance' in the defense sector, sub-systems like Initial Measurement Unit, Long Impact Delay Fuse and Twin Store Carrier will also be indigenized.
Delivery of SAT-SAAW is scheduled between 2027-2028 and 2028-2029. Its inclusion in the Air Force convoy will definitely enhance the operational capability of the IAF, which will enable the Air Force to continue its missions without any hindrance and will further strengthen the defense preparedness of the country.
