Rain wreaks havoc from Sikkim to UP, danger of landslides and storm at some places

An incident of landslide came to light on Thursday night amid continuous rains in Rimbi village of Gyalshing district of Sikkim. More than 20 houses and government quarters were washed away after being hit by the landslide. It is a matter of relief that till now no casualties have been reported in this incident.

Here, Cyclone Arnab, which arose from the Bay of Bengal, has now weakened, but due to its effect, heavy rains are likely to continue in Odisha. There is a danger of flash floods and landslides in the state. As a precautionary measure, about 10 thousand people have been evacuated from low-lying areas and landslide prone areas in the southern and western parts and taken to 200 relief centres. The effect of the cyclone is being seen in nine states of the country.

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rain in Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana during the next 24 hours. During this period, strong winds blowing at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour may also lead to thunderstorms at many places.

The weather pattern has deteriorated in Madhya Pradesh also. Due to the strong system active in the state, orange alert of heavy rain has been issued in 13 districts including Jabalpur. Apart from this, heavy rain is also expected in 16 districts. Yellow alert has been issued regarding rain in 19 districts of Bihar. At the same time, there is a possibility of rain in six districts of Haryana including Yamunanagar, Karnal and Panipat.

Monsoon has once again gained momentum in Uttar Pradesh also. It is raining in about 20 cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Jaunpur since Friday morning. Rain with strong winds is continuing in the capital Lucknow since Thursday evening.

Due to continuous rains, the risk of waterlogging, floods and landslides has increased in many states. Along with increasing surveillance in sensitive areas, the administration is appealing to people to remain alert regarding the weather.
