New Delhi: The controversy regarding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar now seems to be taking the shape of a big movement. CJP's Abhijeet Dipke on Friday gave a clear warning that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign from his post by Saturday, the party will start protests across the country from October 2.
In a post on X, Deepke said that CJP will start its protest from Mumbai on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and after that it will be spread to different cities of the country. He wrote that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign by tomorrow, CJP will start its nationwide protest from Mumbai on October 2, and on this Gandhi Jayanti, everyone will pledge to save democracy.
Opposition parties also targeted
It is noteworthy that this announcement of Deepke has come the very next day of his statement in which he had demanded the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar if his words were not fulfilled. "Jantar Mantar 2.0" Like had threatened to start a movement. In his statement, Dipke also strongly criticized the opposition parties. He said that on one hand the opposition alleges rigging in the electoral process, but on the other hand it itself keeps taking part in the same elections. He argued that by contesting elections in this way, the opposition itself gives legitimacy to these elections, thereby maintaining the illusion that these elections are completely free and fair.
'Contesting elections has become a compulsion'
Dipke said that even if elections are being rigged, when a party repeatedly participates in these rigged elections, it unwittingly strengthens the illusion that the system is fair. He also raised the question whether the opposition parties are contesting the elections only because they fear that if they stay away from the elections, their political existence will end. Along with this, he also accused the opposition parties of making allegations of electoral manipulation selectively as per their convenience i.e. according to the state or party.
Election Commission is already in controversies
This comment of Dipke has come at a time when the functioning of the Election Commission is already under question. According to an Indian Express report, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi have lodged their objections to the decisions and orders related to the voter list at least 14 times in the last 10 months. However, the Election Commission has clarified that all the decisions, including those related to SIR, were taken unanimously and were approved by both the Election Commissioners as well as the Chief Election Commissioner.
