New Delhi. There has been a big upheaval in cricket in the Asian Games 2026. Nepal Cricket Team has defeated Afghanistan by five wickets in the Group A match played at Korogi Sports Club on Friday. Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, the team could score only 102 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Nepal achieved the target with 16 balls remaining i.e. losing five wickets in 17.2 overs.

Afghanistan's innings
Mohammad Akram was out after scoring two runs and Karim Janat was out after scoring nine runs. At the same time, Hasan Aisakhil could not even open an account. After this, Faisal Shinozada and Najibullah Zadran made a partnership of 39 runs for the fourth wicket. Shinozada was out after scoring 30 runs in 33 balls and Zadran was out after scoring 30 runs in 40 balls. Then the Afghanistan team could not recover. Mohammad Ishaq was out for seven runs and captain Darwish Rasooli was out without opening the account. Kharoti remained unbeaten on 17 runs in 15 balls and Ahmedzai remained unbeaten on one run. Kushar Bhurtel took maximum four wickets for Nepal. Whereas, Lalit Rajbanshi got three wickets.
Nepal's innings
Nepal's team, which came to chase the target of 103 runs, also had a bad start. Kushal Bhurtel was out without opening the account. Whereas, Asif Sheikh could score two runs. Kushal Malla also returned to the pavilion after scoring nine runs. After this Sandeep Jora and Rohit Paudel added 25 runs for the fourth wicket. Zora was out after scoring 34 runs in 35 balls. Then Paudel made a partnership of 46 runs with Deependra Singh Airi. Airey was out after scoring 15 runs. After this, Paudel along with Gulshan Jha led Nepal to victory. Paudel remained unbeaten after scoring 33 runs in 32 balls with the help of four fours. For Afghanistan, Faridoon Davudzai, Ahmadzai and Gul Momand got one wicket each.

Now what are the equations?
Afghanistan have registered one win and one loss in their two matches in the league stage. They have no matches left, but due to better net run rate they are on top of the three-team Group A table. Nepal has won its first match and will now play winless Japan in its last league match. Each team has to play only two matches in the league stage and the top two teams of each group will make it to the quarter-finals. If Nepal beats Japan, it will top the group and go to the quarter-finals. India will face the second-placed team in Group A in the quarter-finals. This match will be played on 28th September.
