Mandi, 26 September 2026: Runner Sawan Barwale from Jogindernagar in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh has created history by winning the silver medal in the men's marathon competition in the 2026 Asian Games. In this competition held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, Sawan got second place with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds. With this performance he has improved his own national record.
With this achievement of Sawan, India's 44-year long wait for a medal in the men's marathon competition of the Asian Games has also ended. India had previously won a medal in the men's marathon in the Asian Games held in Delhi in 1982. Sawan's silver medal is also India's first medal in this competition on foreign soil.
