New Delhi, 26 September 2026: At least 19 people have died in Nagaland due to alleged consumption of spurious liquor, causing panic across the state. It is noteworthy that complete prohibition is in force in Nagaland since 1990. After this horrific accident, the police have started strict action to expose the supply chain of adulterated liquor and its main source.
According to police sources, 8 people have died in Mokokchung district and 11 in Tuensang district in the last two days. All these people had consumed illegal liquor. Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kejo said on Saturday that, keeping in mind the seriousness of this incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) I. A special investigation team has been formed under the leadership of Banglang Chang.
To find out the exact cause of death, liquor samples have been sent to Guwahati for forensic examination. Police have conducted intensive raids against drug lords and bootleggers and have so far arrested 19 people and seized about 3,000 liquor bottles. Police had added that some important clues have been found in the investigation, but since the investigation is ongoing, it is too early to reveal more details.
After the incident, the police system has issued a strict warning to the local citizens not to consume any kind of unadulterated, unlabelled or suspected illegal liquor. Along with this, the police has appealed to the people that if they experience symptoms like dizziness, blurred vision, difficulty in breathing or feeling unconscious after drinking alcohol, then they should immediately contact the nearest doctor or hospital without any delay.
