Congress's Vineeta Punia won the election for the post of Khatushyamji Municipality President of Sikar district by defeating BJP's Prem Devi by a margin of just one vote. Following the order of the High Court, the results of 19 votes were counted and declared on Saturday.
Tezzbuzz Desk– Vineeta Punia of Congress has won the election for the post of Khatushyamji Municipality President of Sikar district of Rajasthan. He defeated Prem Devi of BJP by a margin of one vote. Following the instructions of the Rajasthan High Court, the election results were declared after counting of votes in the Municipal Auditorium on Saturday.
Before the counting of votes, the strong room built in the police station was opened on Saturday morning. The ballot box was taken out in the presence of Returning Officer Kapil Upadhyay, ASP Deepak Garg, DYSP Rajesh Kumar Jangid and other police officials. After this, amidst tight security, it was taken to the auditorium located at the Municipal Office, where the votes were counted. BJP's presidential candidate Prem Devi did not reach the strong room during this period.
Voting for the post of Municipal President was held on September 21. Out of the total 20 councilors of the municipality, 19 had voted, while councilor Lakshmi Devi was absent from the voting. After voting, the ballot box was kept under tight security in the strong room of the police station.
Rajasthan High Court had directed Returning Officer Kapil Upadhyay to count the votes and release the results within 24 hours. Under this order, on Saturday, the ballot box was taken out from the strong room and brought to the municipal office and the counting of votes was completed as per the prescribed procedure.
Extensive deployment of police was made for security arrangements during the counting of votes. Police force under the leadership of DYSP Rajesh Kumar Jangid remained present on the spot. After the results came out, there was an atmosphere of happiness among the Congress supporters. At the same time, elections for the post of Municipal Vice President will be held on Sunday.
Khatushyamji is known as a religious city. In such a situation, BJP's defeat in the election for the post of Municipal President is also being discussed politically. Earlier, BJP had also faced defeat on Ayodhya seat in the Lok Sabha elections of Uttar Pradesh.
Apart from this, BJP was also defeated in the by-election held in July 2024 on the Badrinath assembly seat in the religious city of Uttarakhand. In that election, Congress candidate Lakhpat Singh Butola defeated BJP's Rajendra Singh Bhandari by 5,224 votes.
