Customers can complete important banking work at several public sector bank (PSB) and regional rural bank (RRB) branches today, Sunday, September 27, ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to September 30.
The special Sunday opening has been arranged to provide customers with an additional opportunity to access branch services before the strike. However, customers should check the operational status and timings of their individual branch before visiting.

The Sunday opening follows a meeting held on September 21 between officials from the Finance Ministry, public sector banks, regional rural banks, the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and NABARD.

What about private banks?
The special Sunday opening arrangement does not automatically apply to private sector banks. Customers should check directly with their respective bank or branch regarding Sunday operations.
Why are banks opening on Sunday?
September 26 and 27 fall on Saturday and Sunday, immediately before the proposed three-day bank strike. The Sunday opening is intended to ensure that customers have an additional day to complete important branch-related banking work before services could be affected by the strike.
The proposed nationwide strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and other bank unions and is scheduled from September 28 to September 30.
Customers who need to visit a branch for urgent banking work can therefore use the Sunday opening, subject to individual branch arrangements and staffing.
