Marking a major leap forward for rural livelihoods and regional agriculture, Hatsun Agro Product Ltd. (HAPL), India’s largest private-sector dairy, has officially launched ‘Go-Dhan’.
This flagship empowerment initiative aims to transform the dairy ecosystem across 15 districts of Odisha by bridging critical gaps in institutional finance, technology adoption, and scientific farm management.
The grand launch ceremony took place at the OUAT Auditorium in Bhubaneswar, drawing esteemed leaders from the government, banking, and dairy sectors. Among the notable dignitaries were Prem Chand Chaudhary, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries & Animal Resources Development (Government of Odisha); Shubhranshu, Managing Director of APICOL; Rakesh Kumar Yadav, Chief General Manager of the State Bank of India; and Mr R. G. Chandramogan, Chairman of Hatsun Agro Product Ltd.
Driving Sustainable Growth and Financial Inclusion
Designed to benefit approximately 6,000 dairy farmers over a phased three-year period, ‘Go-Dhan’ addresses the foundational requirements of modern, sustainable dairy production. Participating farmers will gain seamless access to institutional credit, allowing them to invest in high-quality bovine breeds, modern cattle housing, farm mechanisation, specialised nutrition, and herd health programs.
Furthermore, the initiative leverages key government subsidy schemes—such as the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY)—to ensure that capital remains affordable and accessible for expanding local dairy operations.
Speaking at the launch, Mr R. G. Chandramogan, Chairman of Hatsun Agro Product Ltd., highlighted the vision behind the program:
“Through the Go-Dhan initiative, we aim to support the establishment of more than 6,000 dairy farms over the next three years… Together, we are committed to transforming Odisha into a dairy-rich state while creating better opportunities, higher incomes, and long-term prosperity for its farming community.”
Strengthening the Regional Agricultural Economy
As a vital component of secondary agriculture, dairy farming provides rural households with a stable, progressive income stream that positively reinforces primary agriculture. HAPL envisions building a robust dairy value chain that not only meets domestic consumer demands within Odisha but also paves the way for exports to neighbouring markets like West Bengal, North Andhra Pradesh, and beyond.
Backed by the collaborative efforts of the Government of Odisha, APICOL, and the State Bank of India, ‘Go-Dhan’ stands as a testament to public-private partnership, promising a prosperous, self-sustaining future for the state’s hardworking farming community.
