The political confrontation between the Congress party and the Election Commission of India (ECI) escalated sharply on Monday as party workers launched intense nationwide demonstrations, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The protests turned dramatic in Uttar Pradesh, where demonstrators reached the CEC’s residential gate in Agra’s Vijay Nagar, pasting pamphlets and using black spray paint to write slogans targeting the poll chief.
Clips of the Agra protest circulated widely on social media, with the Indian Youth Congress sharing visuals and accusing the leadership of compromising free and fair polls.

State units across Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh also staged parallel demonstrations, submitting memorandums to local authorities.
The aggressive protests follow recent investigative reports claiming internal dissent within the poll panel, where other election commissioners allegedly recorded objections regarding electoral-roll revisions and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
While the ECI insists that decisions on the SIR were unanimous and internal disagreements are standard, the opposition argues the disclosures reveal a lack of transparency, pointing to a turbulent political battle ahead as the Congress Working Committee meeting approaches.
