The controversy was related to the unauthorized use of songs from the 1999 film 'Biwi No. 1' which were used in Varun Dhawan's film 'Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai'. Pooja Films had earlier filed this case in a court in Bihar.

Pooja Entertainment claimed that it had not given permission for the visual use of the songs and sought to stop their use in the release, distribution, streaming and promotion of the film.
